Thanks to a nice doctor in puesta the salud in Juiliaca, these parents with their little daughter Rosa became, referred to us. They come from a village near the city Juiliaca, 7 hours by bus to Arequipa. Rosa has been born three months ago with an cleft lip and palate and nobody in the local hospital gave them information what to do.Then they went to the puesta the salud , where the doctor on duty informed the about the free treatments of PAZ-Holandesa. He also gave them money so they could pay the bus to travel to Arequipa. A city where they had never been and where they did not know their way. But nevertheless they found the hospital and they were immediately helped. The largest problem, beside of course when she can be operated, is the feeding. Breast feeding does not succeed and the bottle also gives a lot of problems. Consequence of all this is that the baby looses weight and will suffer of malnutrition. Recently we give to these children and their parents the so-called PAZ-starter kit, that not only contains a baby-bottle with a baby-bottle mouth piece, but also baby food, a folder concerning the treatment, the feeding, the contexts and how the chance of getting a child with schisis is reduced by taking folium acid tablets 3 months before the conception.
Now Rosa is planned for her first operation in November of this year. After one night in a hostel, Rosa and her parents left the next day to Juiliaca, a lot calmer and happier.Dankzij een aardige arts in een puesta de salud in Juiliaca, werden deze ouders met hun dochtertje Rosa, doorverwezen naar ons. Zij komen uit een dorp vlakbij de stad Juiliaca, ruim 7 uur met de bus van daar naar Arequipa. Rosa is 3 maanden geleden geboren met een open lip en gehemelte en niemand in het locale ziekenhuis die hen informatie gaf hoe en wat. Totdat ze in de puesta de salud terecht kwamen, waar de dienstdoende arts hen informeerde over de gratis behandelmogelijkheden van PAZ-Holandesa. Hij was ook nog zo vriendelijk om hen geld te geven zodat ze de bus konden betalen om naar Arequipa te reizen. Een stad waar zij nog nooit geweest waren en de weg niet kenden. Na veel gezoek en gewandel, vonden ze dan uiteindelijk toch het ziekenhuis en zij ook meteen geholpen werden. Het grootste probleem, buiten uiteraard wanneer ze geopereerd kan worden, is het geven van de voeding. Borstvoeding lukt niet en de fles geven is ook heel problematisch, wanneer deze geen speciale speen heeft. Consequentie van dit alles is dat de baby gewicht verliest en aan ondervoeding gaat lijden. Sinds kort geven wij een zogenaamde PAZ-starterkit, waarin niet alleen een fles met een speciale speen zit, maar ook babyvoeding, een folder over de behandeling, het geven van voeding, de achtergronden en hoe de kans te verlagen van het krijgen van een kind met schisis door het innemen van foliumzuur 3 maanden voor conceptie. Nu staat Rosa gepland voor haar eerste operatie in november van dit jaar. Na een nachtje de ouders en Rosa te hebben ondergebracht in een hostal, zijn de volgende dag een stuk geruster en blij terug naar Juiliaca vertrokken. In november zien wij hen weer terug.
